Self Care Sunday

Self Care Sunday

Lately it feels like I've been running myself into the ground. Everything from weddings to babies to work to finding a new place to live! It seems like I don't have my weekends to myself anymore. Is this what adulating means?! If so, count me out. I try to do a good job of scheduling things and making sure different events are on my calendar but I've been missing one major event: ME TIME.

Self care is all the rage recently and I'm totally here for it. If nothing else, it serves as a reset button as life can get you super riled up. Our personal lives as well as professional ones start to weigh down on us and we start to deteriorate. But we have to make sure we are checking in with our star player and loving on ourselves as much as we love on our loved ones. I like to take some time on Sunday's to do the things that I like to do. Those things include shopping, reading, nail time (diy or a stop by my fave shop), Netflix sessions, cleaning, and most importantly sleeping. The last one is the hardest for me because I tend to feel like I'm wasting my time or missing out on something. But as my life gets busier, I've become ok with taking an hour to get some rest. Naps/sleep are key! Recently I had a stomach bug that was getting the best of me, do you know I carried my lil ol self home and slept almost 10 hours straight and woke up feeling better than ever! But I digress.

Here are some of the things you need for a successful Self Care Day:

  1. Airplane Mode- let's be honest, how many times have you jumped up out of your bed because your homegirl randomly hits you up for a boozy brunch. While I love all things girl time and all things brunch, I love me even more. Give all the important folks (parents, bae, etc.) a heads up that you'll be zoning out and won't be answering the phone. This allows you to really take time to focus on your self care plans!

  2. Book/Netflix- I am a book hoarder! While I haven't read most of the books I own, I like having my own personal library to select from when I get in the mood to read. (BTW, my favorite places to shop for books are the Dollar Tree & Ollies!) I like to pick a book that's been on my To-Read list and read it throughout the day. Now, sometimes on my self care day I don't even want to use my brain. That is where Netflix comes into play. What I love most is when a self care day falls on the release date of a new season of a good show. Tell me that is not God! (Current faves include Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Carmicheal Show, & The Get Down)

  3. Masks (Face & Hair)- My face mask collection is on point. I have a pretty intense arsenal on hand for everything from deep cleaning to moisture. I always pick up samples or sheet masks to add to my collection when I'm out shopping. Some of my favorite places to get face masks are Ulta, Marshall's, & Target. For self care days, I love to multi mask because I have the time to really get the full benefits. My favorite two are the Shea Moisture African Black Soap Clarifying Mud Mask and the Indian Aztec Clay Mud Mask mixed with ACV. Throw in a little TLC for your hair as well with a DIY hair mask or my fave, NEXXUS Vitall 8-in-1 Masque. It smells so yummy and leaves my hair super soft/manageable.

  4. Candles- Along with books, I'm also a candle hoarder. I have well over 25 candles in my place as we speak. It is a little excessive, I know. But it is MY THING. If you're ever stumped trying to figure out what to gift me, you could never go wrong with a candle. They always put me in a more relaxed mood, I love lighting them whatever the occasion. I like to light them for everything from a cleaning session to bubble bath time. I used to be Bath & Body Works type of candle girl, but they are only worth it if you can catch them on sale. So you know where I'm going to direct you to. Good old TJ MAXX and Marshall's! They have such a wide variety at amazing prices that you won't feel guilty for buying 3 at a time.

These are just some of the tips I suggest for a solid SELF CARE SUNDAY. What do you do to check in with your star player?
